I haven't posted photos in a while, really because I've been busy booking but it's just now starting to be ideal outside conditions. Still haven't done a wedding yet, although they are just around the corner. I actually found a local photographer who I will be doing some work for as a second, but I also have my own stuff lined up. Anyway, tell me what you think.

Thanks guys! We were walking along the train tracks downtown and I heard the train, so I ran and got my tripod. I think they thought I was crazy until they looked at the shot on my lcd. I don't attempt to do anything like that in pp because I'm definitely not good enought to make that look real. Of course, the train was only going about 15 miles an hour, but with a long exposure it doesn't look that way.

Sorry, I'm not good with web lingo. What's HDR?

take multiple exposures of the same scene, varying (usually) just the shutter speed. Take a "normal" exposure, and then a few more at 1-2 stops over and under that point. Then, in Photoshop, blend these exposures, using the parts from each one that capture properly the part of the scene that you want

Well thanks for sharing the techniqe with me, but from my ignorance you'll see that it's actually not HDR. It really hasn't been altered much at all, just sharpness, contrast, saturation. Really I think that's it. I did use a long exposure on a tripod and flash to illuminate them and take some of the yellow light being cast on them away.

Would you mind sharing your settings on the train shots? I would love to know how they are exposed so well on such a long exposure. Thanks!

love numbers 4, 5, 6, 7, and 10. Not a fan of #2, the lighting is nice, but he looks really uncomfortable, like he is about to trip forward, and drop her!

Thanks guys! I really appreciate all of the nice comments from such a talented group. #2 was another long exposure, so I used a tripod and my 580ex to illuminate them in the foreground. They had to hold still for a couple seconds, but they did a pretty remarkable job holding still in such an uncomfortable pose. I could have gotten the same effect with a higher ISO, but long exposures tend to add less noise than high ISO's and if I have the option, especially for a shot that I want to capture the beautiful colors like in this one, I prefer to break out the old tripod. For the train shot I did something similar - used a tripod and a low ISO so that I could use a longer shutter speed to add motion to the train. That's a bit of a balancing act though, because too much shutter and the train would just be a big blur. I was definitely flying by the seat of my pants on that one, but when the ideas start flowing I just act on it and hope that I can figure out technically how to make it work.
