Are the dead pixels on the LCD or the CCD?
I think that if they are on the CCD, they fix it right away, no fuss, but that it needs to be a few, or very malplaced for them to fix it on the LCD.
This is only hearsay though, never been in the position myself.

LCD, its only a single dot that can be seen when you look picture of one main color. If its a sky u notice it, if its a building u dont.

There's a rumor that sometimes the bad pixels on the LCD screen can be "massaged" out by gently rubbing the screen with your finger for a minute or two. This only only applies to the LCD's that have a soft screen (like the S400, etc...). The LCD's that have a hard finish, like the S45 and S50, cannot be manipulated this way.

I had some bad pixels on the CCD of my A70. It was still under warranty and Canon replaced the CCD without question. Due to an brick headed clerk, at my camera store, it had to be sent back twice (not Canon's fault). The first time it was sent in said clerk wrote down that there were dead pixels on the LCD (not CCD). Canon replaced the LCD with no questions, also.
