Hi,
When shooting with a speedlight flash, which is the better creative zone mode to use if I want to still have control over the aperture and still get a well balanced photograph?
For example when shooting in dark churches in AV mode the shutter speed obviously drops because of low lighting but when using the speedlight flash on ETTL mode the shutter speed still stays the same (1/40 and below). How am i able to get a faster shutter speed and still have flexibility in one of the creative zone modes?

Manual is best with flash, that way you can set the background exposure and the flash exposure independently.

Ditto what Tim said. Manual all the way with flash photography. Forget about semi-automatic modes like Av and Tv... make the jump all the way to M :D
Learn how E-TTL works and you'll see how wonderful it is. You can setup masters and slaves, have different ratios between them and the beauty of it all: let the camera do all the work when you set it in manual mode!
Can't remember exactly who said that, but manual mode with E-TTL flash is a thing of beauty.

Everyone seems to have a fear of manual mode when they start out these days.
Remeber that once upon a time, long, long ago, all cameras were fully manual.
Bite the bullet. Read material that is relevant, and above all practice.
You'll be pleasantly suprised. It's not rocket science.

Well I won't go that far ;) but it sure is the best way to deal with the Canon flash system.
BTW thanks for the wedding shot list,
