I rented a 300 this past weekend. For those who have not shot big L glass. I warn you, DON'T DO IT. I have been scheming ways to come up with 4K more than I have already thrown down on a MarkII. It is a really impressive piece of glass, what impressed me more was using a 1.4X converter and still having a f4 lens. It is heavy and bulky, but man-o-man...I got to have one. If you have a chance to rent one, go do it. It was the best $35 dollars I have spent for a weekends usage.

I rented the very same lens a couple weekends ago, and I agree it's a fabulous piece of glass. Heavy, bulky, but fabulous. One guy said to me: "You must be able to take really big pictures with that...."

I, however, got to rent the lens for $20 for the weekend because my photo store was having a half-off special for weekends. Either way, I could rent the lens many times before I paid to buy one. Ouch.

The last time I looked into renting photo gear, they wanted $150 a day for a 10D. Are lenses that much less to rent?

www.lighttec.com They have a place in Dallas and Houston. If you rent on Friday afternoon and return on Monday afternoon, you pay one day rental. They require you carry your own insurance or accept liability for damages to the gear you rent. They used to sell insurance but stopped due to fraudulant people....
