I am sure this has been discussed before, but as of today, which shutter stock website is the best to use?
Is it worth the effort or is the amount you earn only a couple of dollars each month?

No, it isn't. I'd rather be paid fairly for my images.

Good reply.
I am browsing through Istock.com and it is rather disappointing as there isn't very many "true photography" images. It is mostly graphic arts and Photoshopped overdoses over there.

SOme love microstock and some hate it. there are arguements for both. It's here to stay. I use three sites and do the best on ShutterStock (http://submit.shutterstock.com/?ref=12035). I recently bought another lens with my earnings. There are photographers that make a living selling on microstock sites.

How long was it before you started seeing any profit?
I have used cafepress for selling things, and I usually do between $100-$150 per month. Of course though I have a very specific niche market (fetish). And I have been told over and ove that my earning their are beyond exceptional and very unusual.

Everyone will be different. The more pictures you have on the more you can make, better quality, better subject matter, all comes into play. Register as a seller and get in the forums and look around.
