View Full Version : "circular" reflector?

Hi, new person, neat board, etc...
Anyways, I bought my first reflector last week and finally got to open it tonight. When it unfolded, I realized it wasn't flat, it was more like a pringle chip.
Is this a big deal? It'll be a hassle to return to the store since I'm quite a distance away...

Welcome to the forum!
I've only ever had one of these, and it didn't have that problem. Can you work with it a little to see of that tightness will work out? Can you call the store where you got it to see if they have suggestions?

Well, it's a metal bar inside, it's not like I can bend it, and it's pretty tight but not tight enough to warp it or pull it. I'm playing with it now, and instead of reflecting light, it seems to reflect a line of light. I can't call the store until tomorrow morning, but I'm going to have to, I think.
Thanks for the welcome.

Right, I don't think there is any way it's going to work right unless it's flat. I think though that the bands that make up the circular frame are usually plastic, aren't they? Not that that makes any difference with your problem.

Would you be willing to post a picture of it? Not that it will help anything, but I'm curious.

I have a Photoflex, which is flat. I sometimes use a Lastolite, which tends to 'pringle'.
Not a problem when using the white side, can be advantageous when using the silver side IMO.

I've used a reflector that had a bit of curvature to it and I didn't have any problems. Actually, I think it helped me with getting the light to go where I wanted it.
I don't know, maybe you're curvature is different that what I'm thinking about. What brand is it?
