Removing bg tweak question

I followed some instructions using the lasso and removing the BG to add what's left to another BG. I read somewhere a week or so ago how to make the two layers look like they belong to each other and not look like it was actually pasted. I'd like to know that, and I thought I didn't have edges showing but I guess I was wrong. How would I fix that or keep it from happening before flattening layers?
