Had a really long day. This group had energy to spare. The groom apparently had never smiled for a picture in his life. Uh oh. But he eventually eased in and everybody had a great time. And it was darn freezing outside.

BTW... yes, I do have a thing for BW and duotone. Don't worry, most of the final shots will be in colour.

3. Tell guys to act like total idiots and they will. Apparently there was a lot of butt grabbing in this shot...

4. Ceremony lighting was a nightmare. I've never seen such HUGE windows in my life! About 35 ft tall. Dark green walls. Nothing to bounce off.

Very nice shots. I really have a thing for bw and duotone as well. How did you light #6, or is that just the incandecent lighting. It has a wonderful mood to it. #7 really grabs me as well. I have much to learn from you:lol:

Beautiful, in trying circumstances apparently. I hope you're a member of a local or national organisation, you would probably get to master level quite quickly - I know you would here in NZ.

Those windows at the ceremony look like a real challenge.

Awesome work, man.

I love the aesthetic you create with your post processing. It's subtle, yet very striking!

I love the way you frame your shots, I tend to frame too close... I need to step it back a bit and capture more - can always crop it out if need be.

Love it.

Thank you for the very nice comments guys. The wife and I had to sleep for 10.5 hours just to recover from this one. This is why I NEVER book back to back weddings... hahaha. I admire those of you who can do it.

Every flashed shot above is using an off camera flash.

#3 had one on my left. It was in the shade but I like creating shadow detailing so I still like to slave flash even when the light is even and easy. I guess I like to make things hard for myself... ;)

#4 and 5 had one at the behind the last row of guests, about 7ft high.

#6 had one placed right behind the couple. Set to 24mm at about shoulder level. I pointed it so half the flash would hit them and the other half would hit the wall and provide just a touch of fill. If you set the slave at veil level and be sure to hide her shoulder/hair under it, you will not cast a hard shadow of her on the wall.

#7 the slave was just below shoulder level. The position is obvious when you look at the shadow on the ground.

#8 well... you can SEE the slave in the top right. Set at a 7ft height firing down into the dance floor. No ceilings or walls to bounce off.

There are no secrets here. EXIF should be retained in all files.

I love the way you frame your shots, I tend to frame too close... I need to step it back a bit and capture more - can always crop it out if need be.

Dan, this is something I keep having to remind myself. I either get into a wide mood or tight mood for any given night. It's always a struggle to keep it balanced. Many times I look through the photos and regret my lack of variance. I'll never be perfect I guess.

Beautiful, in trying circumstances apparently. I hope you're a member of a local or national organisation, you would probably get to master level quite quickly - I know you would here in NZ.

You're too kind!!! I'm not THAT good, I never feel like I did as well as I should have. Anyone else feel that way? I have never really considered joining an organization. I should look into it.

Not that my work compares to yours, but I feel like that a lot. I try to get better each time, but there's always something I wish I would have done. Loved the shots, and appreciate you sharing your flash techniques! :)

I don't see too many WP who use off camera flash...either at all or as much and as well as you do...so good for you. I'd say that puts you in elite company in this market.

Where was that location with the huge windows?

Do you always stay the whole night? I can see that being fun but getting very tiring. Once the older folks go home and the party gets going...I find that it's just a bunch of dancing and people getting more and more inebreated. You could get some dancing shots at 9:00-10:00 and then call it a night. On the other hand, there are great shots to be had at 1:00 to 3:00 when the party is winding down...but is it worth waiting around for three hours to get them?

Wow! very nice work indeed! and you are just too modest, not at all your typical pro photographer (http://web.mac.com/aaronandpatty/iWeb/What%20the%20Duck/Comic%20Strips/E664D48C-F0A1-47AA-82A9-313348E38457.html) ;)

I'll be shooting in somewhat similar conditions this summer... Big windows all around!

I really like your off-camera lighting! I really sets the mood :D

It was at the Heritage Pointe golf club in DeWinton, AB. Just south of Calgary.

I stay until midnight at the latest. Often I leave earlier than that. I couldn't imagine staying until 1-2AM. I think that would just about kill me!

Yeah Sebastien, the last three brides all had weddings with huge windows all around. Usually it's not TOO bad but these were HUGE windows, and it was cramped so they were standing only about 1.5 metres from them, so it was really difficult to get half decent contrast and made it really tough on the focusing system. yikes!!!

really really nice work. # 6 is my favorite - great angle and it has a mysterious quality to it. I'm sure the couple will be drooling over these :)
