I am starting to get into real estate photography and am pondering wether or not the landscape photogs here think the Mark II will be able to produce details enough for commercial work. I am speaking of estate photos, which are kin to landscapes, not a snap shot of the front of a row house.
I was thinking a 16-35 and the MarkII would do fine and produce a large enough file for a double truck spread if needed.
I shoot sports as a primary subject and the real estate is secondary. So I am trying to get the most bang for my buck.
Any comments?

As far as the lens goes, you'd be hard pressed to find better..

For printing....

The 8mp 1D MkII provides images that are 3505 x 2336..

You'll have to crop to 2906 x 2336 to match the aspect ratio of double truck.

So if you print at double truck (26.75" x 21.5"), you'll be getting an image of around 108 DPI.. If that's adequate, then yes, the camera will do OK..

Note, you can increase the pixel density by interpolation and get up to 150-200 DPI if need be.. There are programs (Like Genuine Fractals) that do a good job of this.

Just to add.. D30/D60/10D owners (with only 6 megapixels) have been claiming excellent results printing 20" x 30" posters.... (But I've never seen one printed personally)..

I do kitchen photography for a high end kitchen company and make 16x20s for them. The detail is incredible and they are as good as my mamiya 645 enlargements. I use a 10d with a 17-40 mm canon L lens. All of my shots are from a tripod at F11 and usually close to a half to a quarter of a second. The only reason that I would like the new 1D Mark11 is for the 1.3 multiplication factor so that my angle is wider, otherwise the 10D is fine. The 1Ds would even be better but I can't justify the cost at this time.
