I have been lurking here for quite some time and decided to introduce myself. I am a 100% noob and just trying to learn as much as I can.

Now for the strange part of the post. I apologize if this is in the wrong section, but I wasn't sure where to post general questions. I have been reading on several different photography forums over the past month or so and somewhere along the line I saw a picture that made me laugh. It had been taken at a baseball game and showed a Nikon sponsored photography area that was filled with Canon cameras and white lenses. I thought it was a funny picture and I would like to find it again, but I can't even remember which forum I was reading at the time. If someone knows the picture that I am talking about and knows where to find it I would appreciate it.

Anyway, I have already learned a lot from hanging around here, (mostly that my bank account is too small and about to get smaller:lol:). I look forward to eventually getting to the point where I have something worth posting here. Keep up the good work.

Hi idahofarmer,

welcome to the forum as 'active lurker' :D

One small hint ... I would also like to see that image.
But you might use a more meaningful title next time (e.g. 'searching for image of canon photogs in Nikon sponsored area' or similar)

So I wish you the best of luck for getting your question answered !!! :D

Best regards,
Andy

Hahahaha, I've seen that image, but I don't have a link for it.

Best of luck to you.

Welcome to the forums. I tried a search using the words "Canon at Nikon Sponsored Event" and it came up with no results. I hope someone knows where that photo is, as I would like to see it too.

Do a Google Images search for "canon nikon baseball", the link to the photo is on page 4.

HTH :)

MikQuattro, would it be possible for you to post a link? I did a GIS for "canon nikon baseball" and it only returned one page of results. Thanks for the help.

Had the same problem. Only 12 results in total, exact same search string, no filtering.

What are we missing?

Best regards,
Andy

Actually, seems that the guy to the left of TV camera (green shirt, blue hat backwards) shoots with Canon 1200mm lens..

nah, probably a 600mm. easy ways to tell, theres no big handle on the top of the lens, 2. the lens isnt big enogh, and 3, the lens has too be used on its own custom tripod, that one is on a mono.

Agreed. Maybe even the 400mm. If it were the 1200mm, you would see unconscious people on the ground on both sides of him when from when he was panning the beast. lol, a 1200mm on a 'pod... funny thought!

FYI, you can just right-click on a picture, pick "Properties", and you can see the URL in the Properties dialog box.

While we are on topic for old pictures. Does anyone have a link for the one with the guy overloaded with Canon Gear. I mean like cameras, tripods, and lenses hanging all over him. It bordered on crazy.

I was not looking at the lens very much, for a moment I thaught that I reconzied the person from some other pictures, but now I see that I was wrong.

If there's one thing I've learned, it's to stay in the "talk about photography" section, and stay away from the "ef/efs lenses" section. You'll be a much better photographer in a much shorter period of time. This comes from personal experience!:D

I've never seen duct-taped cardboard tubing used as a lens hood for L-glass before. That shots makes me laugh so hard I cry.

This had to be some kind of setup shot, right? Anybody have more info on that shot?

you can see why he needs the knee supports carrying that lot... what on earth can his justification be for carrying all that at once?!

Because he's a lunatic. ;)

Notice how the crowd's eyes are on the guy too. I wouldn't be surprised if that was still the case even if the golfer was about to take a swing. I mean, what's more interesting.. your tournament player taking a shot, or some crazy knee-pad-wearing camera lunatic stalking the green.

He's carrying atleast 5 bodies. Hahahahahahaha.

May be he doesn't know that you can actually change a lens on a given body...

But seriously, he seems to have some nice gear there... minus all the duct tape!

Maybe he's the youngest of a group of SI photographers, so he has to double up as a sherpa while they go grab a quick beer

Andy

i read somewhere that he is a known golf photographer and gets paid a lot to do what he does. He has that many bodies with different lenses, so he won't have to be constantly switching lenses while he is shooting. At golf lots of different focal lengths are needed.

Now see, to me that's like buying 2 cars and putting snow tires on one of them instead of just changing your tires in the winter. SLRs are designed to have their lenses switched.

But, at the end of the day, he's a pro and I'm not. Still... it seems silly.

More like leaving the snow tires on the car all winter rather than changing back to summer tires whenever there's a thaw. How long does it take you to change lenses? How long to grab a different camera? Which would you rather do in a rush? The lenses are going to be just as heavy and bulky - you're only adding a little bit more weight by pre-mounting an extra camera on each one.

In 'film' days, it wasn't all that unusual to see three or four bodies hanging off guys. It's all about time available to swap lenses and change ISO (ASA) film rolls.

I shot the Detroit Gran Prix for several years and believe me, this guy is a little overboard, but only by about 3 or 4 rigs.

by the way, the pants are 5.11's greatest for shooting.

You would think that all the straps would get tangled making it hard to change systems for a different shot and if they did get tangled then it would have been quicker just to change the lens. With all those straps around his neck how does he keep from strangling himself?

speaking of film...it looks like every one of the bodies he's carrying is film. wow. at least they're quite a bit lighter.
