I have the 100-400 IS and take a lot of bird shots. I like the 100-400 for the IS especially and would NOT get rid of it. Is there any point in ALSO owning the 400 5.6 I understand it the THE bird in flight lens to have. I have some luck with the 100-400 for BIF but am wondering if I should consider the 400.
Thanks for your input.

It's one of the quickest-focusing, most accurate-focusing lenses canon makes. Color rendition and resolution are superb, and it's not incredibly heavy.

Sounds like a good reason to get it. :p

the 400 is supposed to af slightly faster and the optics are probably slightly better to use with a TC
I think I will go with the 70-200 2.8 before the 400 if you already have the 100-400, thats the only thing I dont like is the fact that its 5.6

The prime will trump the zoom on AF speed and IQ. It's also lighter in weight. However it does lack IS.

Will you ever want longer than your 100-400? IF yes, save the $ you would have spent on the 400/5.6 and start saving for longer.
