Shot on auto, 1/640 f2.8 with an S50. Hasn't been altered from original. (my 14th post, glad to get off 13, I hate 13 :lol: )

Straightforward answer would be "Light on the Boat". Next time, try one without the sun in the frame. (In digital, it doesn't cost anything to push the button.)
If you are just hellbent on having the sun in the frame, use the flash to fill in the boat.
Just too dark on the subject.

You should set your exposure for the boat, lock that exposure in,step back and reshoot.
In other words meter for the boat instead of the overall scene.

Very nice boat subject, but the washed out highlights on the water and sun (big blob of pure white) are distracting. A different angle of view would certainly benefit.
Perhaps this view would work best after the sun went down?
Boat is underexposed... Fill flash? Reflector? Change exposure (though this would create more washed out area...)
You might get a more pleasing image from this photo if you up the boat values with the curves tool.
