Hi all,

My wife and I have a G2, and she wants to take close-ups, so I thought I'd surprise her and get her the stuff.

BUT

I can't seem to nail down what I need, and what it's for.

I apologize, but I'm not even sure about the terminology. I think I need an adaptor so that the camera can have any sort of additional lens whatsoever (at least that's what the owner's manual said).

Then, it's gets fuzzy. Do I just get a macro lens and I'm done? There were some great pix associated with a thread in this forum, and the author mentioned he had 3 lenses (that screwed together?) and then something on top of that! The pix were great, but the hardware sounded terrifying.

Thanks to anyone who can clarify things for this noob. Also, any personal recommendations (stay away from brand X, Brand Y is awesome, etc) are most welcome.

Sorry, click on G2 accessories. That will tell you the size of the adapter & its front thread size (49mm). It's a good company IMHO. Whether or not you buy the Hoya close up len(ses) from them or look elsewhere is your choice. Hoya & B&W (or is it BW) are supposed to be very good. I haven't a clue.

Like paladin said, you need the 49mm adapter for the G2. Great service from Lensmate on the adapter but I chose to get the Hoya close up set on ebay and saved myself $30.

Hi Edmund
This guy has taken some amazing macro shots with a G1 and a G3 (so G2 should be similar) and his site goes into some detail regarding his setup.

I bought a 2nd-hand 50mm pentax lens for reversing on my G3 on e-bay and the rest of the stuff I got through lensmate.

you already know that you need an adapter and macro lenses/filters. Regarding the lens, look for +10, Hoya and B+W make it. The set (+1, +2, +4 if I remember correctly) does not give enough power and one has to stuck too many lens together. Hoya +10 is twice as expensive as B+W, but it has front thread if one wants, for example, to stuck two of them. I have a B+W +10, it's excellent. I bought it on Ebay for $10 including shipping, but I was lucky (it, actually, goes back to Ebay, I'm selling my G2).

A ring flash is a very nice thing to have for macro shots, but it's very expensive.
