I'm going to purchase a new Canon camcorder through Adorama and I'm considering the 4-year Mark warranty for about $50. $50 on a $700 investment is cheap insurance to me.
Has anyone had any experience with Mack and are they a worthwhile warranty provider?

Consumer Reports gave them a very favorable review about two months ago. They have a large repair facility where they do the warranty repairs. If you purchase the warranty, be sure to complete the paperwork and send it in as per the instructions or it becomes worthless.

While I usually never buy extended warranties on cars, appliances, etc., I have always purchased one from Mack on my camera equipment. It has come in handy several times, once on my EOS Elan IIe film camera and most recently on my Canon G-1. They repaired both and the small investment in insurance saved me a lot of money.
You must realize that if you drop your camcorder, that would not be covered by the warranty, however, in normal use, they do what they promise.
For more information, you can do a search of this site or dpreview.com under "Mack" or "extended warranties" for quite a few discussions & opinions.
Good luck with your new purchase & enjoy!

Thanks for the input. For the most part I believe that extended warranties are pure profit for a dealer, but for big ticket items, or items that will be expensive to repair, it worth it and if you shop around you can find an extended warranty for a good price, if the provider of the service is reputable. It sounds like Mack is.
It would be $50 just to have a local repair (if there is one) just to look at the camcorder.

Especially useful if you are taking your gear overseas where it can get damaged or stolen.

I have heard of some problems with them recently. One guy had a problem with a Nikon lens, sent it in for repair and, last I heard, they still have it, repairs have not even been authorized yet (they had to send it back to Nikon) and they have had it over 5 months, even though they said the needed repairs were covered by the warranty. This is not a small ticket lens at $4,500.00 and they guy needs it to earn a living...not really what I'd call stellar service.

This could be Nikon for you. Remind me again why Canon rocks? You have it there. Canon= :) ; Nikon= :( However I am in a :D/silly feeling day. :) I had forgotten how much I like using the emoticons! :) :) The last 2 are for good measure.

Could have been, except the guy called Nikon and they told him that the reason they had not repaired the lens yet was because Mack had not authorized the repairs yet. Then when he tried to call Mack, they told him that the person that handles out-of-house repair authorizations was out "indefinitely" and there was no one else that could do it.....

Sounds like time for him to get his lawyer on.
