ok, so for my final project in my 4x5 class, we're to turn in 10 images all following a certain theme. The theme i've come up with is "life in the palm of our hands," where i'll have several sets of hands (1 set in each picture) each holding or interacting with the 5 elements of life (earth, fire, water, air, and the unofficial 5th element of time). I plan to do 2 pictures with each element.

So what i'm going to do is have the hands emerging from a completely black background. Here's what each will be doing.

fire: holding/lighting a match
earth: holding soil
water: holding a bowl of water and water falling into hands.
time: holding an hour glass or watch
air: ?

this is where i need some help. How would you guys suggest i symbolize air? It's the only thing holding me back, so if you guys have any suggestions, it would be great. Thanks in advance guys.

do you have access to an air compressor or something like that? you could blow air onto your hand ... ? or take a picture looking up into the sky with your hands as the focus. Maybe something with a fan?

I have a project to finish as well ... stop action, panning, and intentional blur .. 3 pictures, Ive already got it planned out tho  good luck

It might be hard to coordinate, but how about holding a balloon in one hand and a pin in the other, and shoot just as the balloon is burst?

Hope this helps

Have Fun

Try feathers or torn pieces of paper in the hands and turn on a fan so when the paper/feathers blow away, it shows air.

Air...

Hand suspended in mid air.

Hand gasping for air (emerging from water, or soil)

Hand catching last breath of air (just before drowning)

Hand watching clouds in the sky.

Hand with a Cylinder of compressed air (liquid oxygen) (or symbol)

An air mask (surgical, workers or gas mask) on a hand, pollution in the back ground. (I like this one... Pollution might need be a smoke stack, or car exhaust, unless you have smog on a daily basis...)

Hand in an oxygen tent.

Fan with ribbons blowing, hand enjoying the sensation of moving air.

Hand smoking, another hand gasping (second hand smoke...)

Hand leaning into a very strong wind.

Just a few ideas...
Good luck.
