"Canon EOS-300D / Digital Rebel Made Easy Volumes 1 and 2. 2 DVD set - 70 minutes each"
Has anyone viewed these DVD's?
I'm an amateur photographer moving from a digital Elph to my first digital SLR - Canon EOS 300D. I took an SLR photography and developing class in college many years ago. But I can't remember a thing. I only took one course and I don't think we got into manual shooting yet. ;)
I started looking for some good books (which there are MANY of) but of course these DVD's look promising and EASY. I hope... ;)

BTW- not cheap $79 but at least someone made an attempt to make an instructional DVD just for the Canon 300D. :D:)
BTW- any recs for good DVD's for learning Photoshop?

... my humble opinion,..
The time spent working with these in fron of your monitor would be better spent trekking in the woods with your camera..
Nothing against the product itself,. they may be greeat.. just a personal opinion about this type of product in general. Especially as it realates to photography in general.

I.m with CDS. . . . .Slip the owners manual fit in your back pocket (It'll fit)and go out and shoot and then shoot somemore. Dogs, Kids, fence post, or God forbid a duck. Start off in P mode then switch to AV setting your f/ stop at 8 or 11. Yeah you'll screw up a couple of shots but, you will retain what you have learned.

How valuable is your time?? I calculate my time at $50.00 an hour because I'm an egotist and think that's what my attention is worth in my leisure time. So, the value of the DVD's would be about an hour and a half of my time. It would take far longer than an hour and a half to "Eureka!" my way through the functions by trial and error. I *always* suggest a good primer if one has no previous knowlegde of a specific topic in question whether it's programming, Windows XP, Darts, Backgammon,or Digital Photography. The manuals are excellent if you already understand the logic, but may not be the best resource for someone without an understanding of the underlying concepts.
Now, according to the site:
"You will learn everything from the continuous shooting mode, to the shutter priority mode, preset modes, flash settings, import settings, white
balance settings, memory settings, display and playback modes, focus
modes, set up and custom menus, histogram, self timer, movie mode,
narration over still mode and so much more."
Sure, you can figure it all out on your own, but, psssssst, buy the DVD's. You'll save some time and then when you shoot you'll be practicing good technique and concepts you've learned rather than wasting time figuring it out first.
I think it depends on how YOU learn best. As a technical geek, I usually learn best by diving into a manual with the product in hand and fiddle farting with it exclaiming "eureka" a few times as I go. But I was already familiar with SLR concepts and practices so the manual made sense.
Good luck.

YeS, it's the whole time issue for me. OK, I'm lazy I want it delivered on an easy silver or DVD platter.
Thanks all for the replies. While I'm waiting for the DVD's I will try what you recommended about starting on P mode and choosing aperture 8-11...
This is going to be fun-- very excited! I haven't picked up a new hobby in a while. I did the whole golf thing after my medical residency as expected. But after 2 years of golf I need a NEW challenge. ;)
BTW- thanks for Ebay rec. May be cheaper.... :)
I'll post a review of the DVD's when I get them.
