Well,
As an avid G Series user of course I have to say they rock and with your price range it's about what you can afford. I would suggest the Powershot G3, I'm not too clear on it's capabilities personally as I own a G1. For events at night you will need a tripod. For concerts and such events it could get kind of trying if you're not already extremely familiar with how the camera works and operates, but if you get one soon you have a little time to get used to it. After about a month and half I felt extrmely comfortable with my camera. Hope this helps.

Please do not post with all caps,. it is a breach of standard internet etiquette! :) (it looks like your yelling at us :) )
What you are trying to do is exceedinglky demanding of a camera,. to find a camera that will perfrom in low light or only $300.00 may be very difficult.
You need a combination of two things...
1. The camera must have a high ISO capability (hopefully without too much noise) With ISO the higher the number the more sensitive the camera will be to existing light. So at ISO 800 you will need less light than at ISO 200 :)
2. The camera should have as large an aperture as possible (the aperture spec is measured using an f/stop numer... in this case THE LOWER the number the LARGER the aperture... so, f/2 is LARGER/BETTER than f/4,.. got it? )
So look for these specs on your digital.
High ISO number like 400, 800 or more...
LOW f/stop number (Larger aperture) f/2.8 or lower number.
Good luck :)
