Hi , Can somebody please recommend some methods on how to shoot gold foil on white, with a clean gold and white finish, as the eye sees it in good lighting. eg, I have to shoot greeting cards, chocolate boxes etc.(my new Job). If I get the gold exposure right, the white background is too grey, If I get the white background right, the gold is blown out, If I use the magic wand and cut around a gold font ,eg, the words "SMOOTH CHOCOLATE" at say 0.2 to 0.5 opacity then drag it on to a fresh new "white" layer, the gold lettering after merging visible when enlarged with the magnifiying glass are rough around the edges and are visually apparent on the finished product. I have to make sure the photo of the product is near perfect, Can anyone help?. Thanks Robert Woolrich.

Hi Rob, I would suggest shooting in RAW then you can set the white balance afterwards by clicking a white spot in the photo

If there is enough dynamic range in the image (help if you shot RAW) I would make 2 pics one exposed for gold other for white. In Photoshop I would imort pics and make a layer, I would add layer mask and using brush tool I would bring back the white of the pic, which might work better than cutting around gold font.
