Anybody with 3 flash units might find the following article interesting if you want to set up them up as an all-in-one mobile unit!

Now there's a monstrosity for ya. It looks like it would be fun to play with. I wonder if he actually uses the setup on a regular basis? It does seem to reduce shadow and soften the light. Those example shots have a very smooth quality.
You'd definately want it on a versatile zoom. That 35-350L is a good choice, or the new 28-300L. I wonder what the long term accumulative detriments would be with the extra stress on the hood assembly.
At the very least, you'd shock everyone around you when you whipped out that setup.

 That is a really wild concept  . It makes the camera look like a friggin alien. Imagine trying to Candidly snap shots. With that thing you are the center of attention.

I am getting a mental image of the subjects staggering about blindly, bleeding from the eyeballs after the picture.................

I had actually thought more along the lines of two units,. one in the hotshoe,. and one on one of those freakishly long and adjustable handle grip mounts,.. but way off to one side.. for a mobile side light..
Having all three together around the lens is essentially just a brighter single flash? No?

I think I would agree with your there. It'll also produce a "flattish" picture. I think I like your idea better re the long outstretched extension with a flash on the end. And maybe set it to full power and the flash on top of the camera to less power so that it only provides fill for the side light. Yup, that's a good idea. So get to it. We'll expect you to post a picture when you've completed your flash "project". :D
