Are some of the "signatures" getting to be twice the size of the response text?

Seems to be all kinds of personal advertising suddenly appearing. Far beyond a simple link to a members site.

Starting to look kind of tacky when you go through long threads. 3,4,5 or more responses from the same person can fill up a page pretty quick.

Nope I see it too. Thats why when I discovered how to link back to a forum page I did so with all my gear.

Wasn't it just a few months ago that we had a discussion about limiting signatures. I thought that there was some sort of limit imposed but some don't seem to be respecting that.

I don't have issue with POTN related issues being advertised in a signature but I'm not sure that it needs to be in an extra large font.

I do like seeing others gear. I would prefer that they do a link to the gear list thread that so many of us have done. If you are going to show your gear I don't really need to see your filters, how many extra batteries, etc. I guess some just want their gear list to look large and I can certainly appreciate that.

I do think that it is alot better than it was awhile ago. I don't see many of the 20 line signatures anymore.

I'm just an attention hog. It's all about me, me, me with my signature.

I agree with Sheldon on the gear links. That's what I used to do.

i don't see the point of having a Gear list it just shows some have more cash to spend on Gear than other's ,
i think it's better when posting a pic to say what gear and settings was used as this give's an ider of what a lens camera combo can do, so should be far more helpfull.

Rob.It's also helpful in the technical forums when someone's asking how to do something. You can be a lot more helpful if you know what OP has to work with than if you blithely assume that all they need to do is run out and pick up the hot new body/lens/flash/tripod du jour. There's no point, for instance, in urging a 10D owner to grab that EF 10-22 for his wide-angle needs.

Isn't that where the 'profile' info comes in? How long does it take to click on profile and get details of the poster?

It's still another window to jump back and forth between. We do try to tell people to keep their sig. sizes down; sometimes there's just too much else going on. If you see especially obtrusive ones, please report them. But I'd personally rather see a sig with useful info (gear and gallery) than one full of random quotes meaningful only to the owner.

Here's the best idea - you can go into "Options" in your user control panel and just shut off signatures! It's a nice slick way to get rid of everyones gear lists, favorite trite sayings and on and on.

I know that personally I think Avatars are of Satan and have not viewed one here on POTN for years through this method! :-)

I don't mind short gear lists, I hate the ones that have each item on a separate line. I also think people should use a small font like mine for the gear list.
