should I buy a lens hood for my 50/1.8?

Hi everyone,


Is it worth buying a lens hood for my 50mm F1.8 lens? I don't use a UV filter for this lens as the lens itself is cheap. However I am hoping a lens hood can improve the contrast of an image.

By the way, which type of lens hood should I get? There seems to be many choices.

(I asked the same question in DPREVIEW forum but no one could give me an answer.)

I picked up a screw-in hood at the local shop for $7.00CDN that fits the 50 1.8 perfectly. Black metal, it matchs the lens great. It has to be screwed in every time bit that is a quick process.
