You can read here for a pretty comprehensive review of all the major NR programs:

How do these compare with the built-in NR facilities in Photoshop CS RAW convertor?

I have toyed with a number of noise reduction programs.. including the Fred Miranda NR.

I have to say,. though,. at the risk of putting someone off of buying the FM action.. which is not my goal,. in fact I have purchased a number of Fred's actions specifically because I like to support such a usefull and friendly forum...

But the long and short of it is,. I don't ever use his noise reduction tool. I did not feel that the reults could compare to "Grain Surgery" "Neat Image" or "Digital Gem" all of which are very handy and flxible tools.

The latest one I have not yet tried but some argue is even better than Neat Image is "Noise Ninja"

"Grain Surgery" "Neat Image" or "Digital Gem" are these actual programs? or PS plug-ins like the Fred Miranda one? Is Grain surgery the one by Visual Infinity?

I'm only familiar with Neat Image, but it can be installed free-standing or as a PS plug-in.

The other two are plug-ins for PS,. Grain Surgery even works in 16 bit...

I'm at work,. so I can't look it up,. nor do I remeber who makes what?

One fo them is "Applied Science Fiction" (how can you forget a cmapny with a name like that!??)

I forgot AlienSkin's "Image Doctor" .. which gives so so results... Grain Surgery is by far my favorite. Thy may have gone out of business or where bought,. but for a while they were top dog.. (before Neat Image)

:)

This one only has three sliders to adjust... :)http://www.asf.com/products/plugins/gem/pluginGEM.asp

With Grain surgery,. there are a lot of adjustments you can make,. but (if my memory serves correctly) the basics can be adjusted by merely tweeking the top left percentage slider... to get a pretty good result.

The little icons just to the left of the preveiw image allow you to switch form a before Vs. After image so you can see how far you are pushing things...
