When using my Canon A-1 film camera, I will normally set the camera on manual, set a shutter speed, and then meter various areas of the frame with the camera. This usually will give me a good idea of the proper aperture setting, especially for scenes with both bright and dark elements.
I have been unable to figure out how to do the same thing with the G-1. It appears that the best I can do is look at the LCD screen and change the speed and aperture settings until the image appears properly exposed. When taking pictures in bright light, it is a little difficult to properly judge the exposure from the screen.
I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to use the G-1 to meter the exposure.
