Hello everyone...
I tried countless ways but none of my methods seem to produce the rich and eye catching effect Im looking for. Everyone has seen the black&white photos of the child with the deep red hat or rose. How is that done? Are the shots first takin in color, or B&W? Im using Photoshop CS v8.0, if anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated.

Take the shot in color, select the areas you want to be B&W and desaturate those areas. There are many variations on this basic idea.

The hard part is in the selection. There are many ways of selecting with PS.

Here's one technique using layers and a layer mask:

dtrayers...
Thank yo so much for the adice, I gave it a shot and it worked wonderfully. I always started with a B&W shot and tried adding color to the subject, it just never looked natural. Thanks again
