Shame I lost the tip of his wings...I found the 400 to be almost too much lens some of the time..I can see where the 100-400 would come in handy! This was at Merritt Island Nat'l Wildlife Refuge. I swear I did not saturate the color..he was this bright!

Nicely done Karen, you timed it well and showed his colors very nicely. Would love to see one some day.

Might move there when I retire, I have several friends and love the more secluded parts of the state. The traffic around Tampa you can have! You need more cars in Wis. anyway...:) The birding areas are spectacular! :D :D :D

Yes, I took over 1500 photos while down there! Stored them in a portable Wolverine storage device so didn't really know what I had until I got home!

Hey I was probably close to everyone as I went everywhere! Missed the Everglades though, as I couldn't find a place to stay in the evening, so drove on to Miami and up the coast before stopping. So that is for another trip!

Very good one... Funny you say that... Allen just got back aand sometimes found himself backing up with the 500mm... I have my trusty 300 + extenders so we will see....

Reyno, I remembered your comments about the abundant bird life there but couldn't locate it on my map! So I guess that will be for another trip also. I have a good friend in New Smyrna Beach so I will be back down there prob.this year.

Erik, I had a lot of shots where I cut off wings due to being too close with the 400. Actually I think the 200 would have been perfect for some situations, but still needed the 400 for the longer shots. I can't say enough about Merritt Island Wildlife refuge, birds everywhere-FLOCKS of roseate spoonbills and egrets,etc. It was soooo exciting but has spoiled me for driving around for hours to get 2 shots of a hawk flying away! :(
