Can ya help me pick out what's the difference between the three printers. I live in Australia btw so printer models differ compared with UK & USA.

Canon i990

Canon i905D

Canon i965
http://www.canon.com.au/products/printers/colour_bj_printers/i965.html

Questions:
1. I'm thinking of getting i990 because it has 7 ink cartridges instead of 6. Do you think it's worth another $100 more than i905D?

2. I'm looking for photo printer so i can print at home without taking a trip to photo lab and pay 80c for each 6x4 prints. Do you think it's worth it economically?

3. How does the ink management work?

4. If ya own above printers or similar, how many photo prints (A4) can you do?

5. What paper do you use for photo printing?

6. Do you recommend using refills. This means going to specialist cartridge refilling shop and get it refilled. If ya have done this, what's ya experience?

If you could answer these questions, that'll be great! :D

cant answer all those questions but ...
having seen prints from all three of those the extra tank on the i990 does make a difference to the prints - as to wether the difference is worth $100 !

I think if you look in some other threads on here you will see estimiates of the cost per print, though i think most of those are for the states. I would say that the canon printers are very good on ink usage . Ink management is good - it tells you when you need to replace each cartridge ... very easy!

As to paper / inks etc lots of different views, have a look in other threads on here to get a feel for it

I own an Epson 890 and the Canon i965 & i865. Have printed identical shots/same paper (Ilford) on the above three printers. While I would be happy with all three printers, when placing all prints side-by-side, the winner was the i965. The colours were true, clarity, and print were outstanding. Would like to think the the i990 would also give great if not better results. The Ink usage on the Canon i965 has been very good.

Another printer that is getting rave reviews is the Epson R800 (A$599?), hope to test this one in a couple of weeks.

Cheers
