Anyone have any idea what it'll be, or when it'll be out? The reason I ask is that I have a 400D, and I see very little reason to upgrade to the 30D (the size and layout don't bother me, I find it perfectly comfortable and easy to use with a grip) There isn't a huge difference in IQ and features from what i've heard. I don't want to go FF because I have £700 of EF-S glass on the way.

40D maybe in the fall. Other than that I doubt anymore Rebel series are going to come out for a while.

That being the case, what are you looking for that your 400D doesn't have? Why aren't you satisfied with your 400D?

Doug, it's not that, it's just that I know my 400D pretty much inside-out now, and I hope to have outgrown it (ambitious I know) by the end of the year.

Any news on the 40D?

There's nothing to "grow into" in the higher camera lines. They simply provide some combination of more ruggedness, faster operation, different ergonomics, fancier automation, and bigger sensors.

The 20D/30D line has the same size sensor as your XTi/400D. The "fancier automation" is limited to the addition of spot metering. The primary advantages of the 20D/30D line are the more rugged case, the faster and more durable shutter, and the ergonomic issues (size and weight, viewfinder, controls, and displays).

If you need to use a Wireless File Transmitter or a Data Verification Kit, then the 20D/30D offers an advantage there, but those are specialty items.

Unless you need the faster shutter, you can take any photo with the XTi/400D that you can take with a 20D/30D and presumably the 40D. Some people might find taking the picture to be easier with the 20D/30D/40D, but it sounds like you're comfortable with the XTi/400D.

If you want to move up to a camera that will make a difference in your photography, you're going to need to move up to the 5D or the 1-series.
