Not bad for a first macro shot.
I thing the head is unfortunately a little bit out of focus.
It would have been better to have the head in focus even if
the body of the insect is slightly out of focus.
What camera/lens did you use ?
Regards
Jose

Ya I know
I was a bit disapointed.
With such a small DOF it is tough to get it all in focus.
I used a G3 camera. No special lenses.
I did however use the macro method that was discribed in the G-Series threads.
I will keep at it and as i get better I will post some more pics.

It looks like you *just* missed the focal point...hate it when that happens. Besides that, awsome pic! I love the setting and colors. They compliment his body very nicely.
There are realy only two things that you can do to help the subject be in focus,
1. Take lots of pictures! :D Try putting the camera in high speed multi shot mode. This way, you can snap many pictures while moving the camera closer and further from the subject. Chances are, you'll get one that's just right. Make sure to put it on high speed mode (where it doesn't have to focus or change exposure settings).
2. Use a small aperture size (large F number). This will give you more DOF, but, it looks like you have quite a bit, so, you might have already known this :)
Can't wait to see more!

Nice first shot,, as another said,, practice practice.. I heard this HERE! A good photographer takes 10 shots hoping for a good one,, a great photographer takes 100! Well something like that.. Take a lot!

I agree,. other than the fraction of a mm that the focus is off.. (and that just takes patience and practice..) I think the image is really spot on. The colors and composition,. the detail and contrast... all add up to some perfect ingredients.
A VERY good first try.
