oh so beautiful!
I just took some pictures of a ladybug outside. it was hiding in a plant leaf. I did not get its face so much. Your pictures are just beautiful.

Those are great. The last pic is an interesting color morph.

top notch shots, not the easiest of subjects to get good detail.

I don't think that most people realize how highly reflective they are, and how difficult they are to photograph with a flash! Well done Brian, very well done!!

Thanks for the comments all, :)
I rather like the leather like texture you can see on these at fairly high mags.
Dalentech- my coca-cola diffuser seems to work pretty well on these, it's the sun that's the problem- I purposely shade them when taking pics.

Hiya Brian,
Excellent series of shots, we had a day of really heavy rain followed by a hard nights frost & it seems to have killed off a lot of Ladybirds round here, I say this as I've found a number of dead ones in the last couple of days or may be they just got sick & snuffed it !
Cheers for now

Yup -very, very reflective! Damselflies drive me insane for the same reason...

I think the reflections are very well controlled and , as said, the leathery texture is stunning. Great set.

Thanks again Lisa,Dalantech and Simon for the comments. :)
Simon - I don't mind some reflection- shows the bug is shiny and reflective but in bright sunlight it can obliterate a lot of the detail. When shooting these I purposely stand in the way of the sun to shadow them ( they don't seem to mind unlike many bugs).
