My ISP has just upgraded MYSQL to V4 and I notice that the backup file sizes have dropped significantly from 7.4m/b to 1.8 m/b is this expected?
Also would I be able to restore a backup from one taken in an older version of MYSQL
Thanks
Alan

EE backup data from EE is exactly same from MySQL 4 and MySQL 3. Perhaps you logged out from editor and all messages were cleared, other possibly large table is uncookied.
When you do a file backup, you can view the dump and see if in the end you get a summary - this way you know it was completed. When you do a database set backup you can see that it is ok by CRC list, the backup list also marks it "COMPLETE".
