I am very new to photography and got myself and EOS 400D and a bowens Gemini kit a few months ago. Trying to take some photos on white background of the kids but seem to be having a few difficulties with exposure. Looking for a bit of help !!

I have a white backdrop but the problem i am finding is that the background comes out more light grey on the photos. If I rank up the power then the subject becomes overexposed !

Any help or guidance appreciated

To keep the background white, you have to light it separately from the main subject. Remember, light intensity drops off proportionally to the square of the distance between the source and the subject. So, if you're shooting a subject that's four feet from your light source and your background in 8 feet from your light source, it's going to get 4 times less light than your subject, and thus your background will be gray.

thanks for your comments mark

very simple for you but a bit on the technical side - as i say, i am very new to photography and have just used a point and press in the past. I am trying to do as much reading as possible but there is so much to learn.

What would be an ideal set up for taking my shots. I have a softbox and an unbrella (2 heads)
