I know how useful it would be but i just cant imagine looking through the viewfinder and seeing that...anyone got a picture of it (Somehow?)

Indeed, not quiet what i expected, but still annoying :-P

I'd let it annoy me though heh

I had a look through the MKII Viewfinder a while back, while there are 45 points there, you don't see them all as little boxes in the viewfinder
You just see the outer oval and the inner circle.

Besides, you can customize the 45 points to form different focusing patterns using different number of sensors to suit the photographer.

And everyone knows you turn off all but the middle focus point anyway.

That certainly seems to be the case with our 7 AF point cameras ? At least most of the time.

I get the feeling that the 45 point AF is a lot more usefull with all of them on than the 7 point system is...

Where it really comes in handy is tracking moving objects.. I understand that it is really sweet then...

...I'll let you know what I think of 45 point AF on tuesday...

We need to know more.....

Would it make you jealous if I told you that I was getting an A-1 from B&H tomorrow?

Well, I actually am!!??? Of course, it will only be in my hands for about 2 days as its someone else's camera - they just thought I had some kind of magic way of buying stuff on the internet.

Come to think of it, I do.... ;)

The EOS 3 has 45 FP and that is the number one thing I really miss with the 10D. The density of focusing corresponds with the size of the actual sensor. Because the sensor is so much smaller that that of the 10D, it allows for a much more precise (and accurate) focus selection are on the subject. Chuck Westfall (Canon) posted a drawing which depicted the 10D focusing points (as seen through the viewfinder) and the actual sensor. In reality the sensors extend beyond the boxes shown in the viewfinder. If I remember correctly, I have seen a similar drawing for the 45 FP and it's sensors were the size of the boxes.

An interesting bit of information. just wondering though if that is indeed the case then why does the 1Ds only have 45 as well with a much bigger sensor???

I guess that means that the 1D has 45 point autofocus. Or its getting close to May. :)

The 1Ds has a full frame which is comparable to the EOS 3, therefore the (45) AF sensors should also be comparable. Here is a very interesting link concerning the 1D MKII AF with respect to the EOS 3, 1D, and 1DS - http://www.robgalbraith.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=207109&page=&view=&sb=5&o =&fpart=1&vc=1.

Here is a link to the 10D sensor drawing I referred to in the previous post - http://www.pbase.com/image/18920257/medium. As you can see the the AF sensors are considerably larger the the boxes seen in the viewfinder.

Here is a link to the 1D and 1Ds sensor - http://www.pbase.com/image/18921414.
