Pretty funny Drisley :!:
Specs look the same, price is the same, for same cameras :?: :?:
One might be for camcorders and they just made the number a little different.

I believe that the 512 will not fit in the battery grip due to its lack of groove down the middle. Whoops I just noticed that the grip will be for a Drebel. No idea if the Rebel grip differs from the 10D but the BGED1 will only accept 511 batteries. However, the 10D will accept either. Confused yet :?:

The difference is that the BP-512 has no groove down the centre and the BP-511 does.
Ok I got this from the B&H site but it shoud be all clear now...

That should explain it.
Ian,
I didn't think the grip would allow for the BP-512 batteries on the 10D. I could be wrong though.

Both batteries are the same, I had the smooth one from my Canon Zr20, and when that got stolen, I still had grooved one I bought for my camcorder. As a result I used that when I got my G3. Now that I have a digital Rebel I have two of the grooved one, although the greay non-grooved one would have worked fine. The grip will accept both, as its completely rounded where the top of the battery goes. Also the BG-E1 is different than the one the 10D uses. Mainly because there are different buttons on it for vertical shooting(since the Drebel doesnt carry all the same features, they had to design a different grip, funny that not that much different yet its alot cheaper than the 10D's grip, perhaps cuz it doesnt match the color of the rebel's body :P ), but from my understanding it too will take the same two sets of batteries.
