Taken today at a park, My Friend and her Daughter Allison.
I would like your opinion on these pictures. What I could have done to make them better. All good and bad comments welcome. Thanks
just go easy on me I'm still learning.
So I'm trying but want advice from you all. As of what you think of them. Thanks for the help in all. If I hadn't found this forum and all you nice people. I would still be lost as what I'm doing to start with. You all have really given me lots of good advice.
Coach me all the way what I do know I have learned here.
So I just want to say I appreciate it much. Thanks Gail, :P

Well, I dont have anything to critisise, I just wanted to say how absolutely stunning that first one is. Everything is perfect - the exposure, her pose, the lighting, the background. Well done!

Nice work Gail. The little girl is adorable. Maybe it's my monitor, but the water to the child's left and in back looks a bit overexposed. Man that's a contrasty scene. 8)
Basically on one and three it looks to need a reflector or a fill flash on her face?
Nice job,
thanks for posting

I agree with manncer on 1 & 3 - a little fill flash would look better.
Beyond that they all look great. Good job!

Gail,
I think you're past the learning stage, but do we ever stop learning  ?.
I think the pics are great, but you did have a wonderful model. Not all children can pose like this one, but it was your finger pressing the shutter at exactly the right moment and your eye seeing the light and composition.

Gail,
I think you did a good job in harsh lighting situation. Watch for the lighting differences between the background and the foreground, and fill flash as needed.
I read a hint somewhere that said, "I pick my background first, them place my subject in front of the background." Look at your photos with that in mind--and concentrate on what the background looks like. I think you will find improvement in photos 1 - 3 if you do that. Photo 1 especially could have been improved if you had concentrated on the background. Just a slight change in your position down--to use her head to block that black thing behind her and maybe to the left to surround her completely by water.
I hope that makes sense....I am certain that her mom is delighted with the photos.
Did the clouds come in a bit for the last two photos. The lighting there is really nice.

Thanks for the comments and help on the photos. Helps me to know what I'm doing wrong, I appreciate it. You know I didn't even think of using the fill flash on them. But will remember to next time. Thanks
And yes the mother is a very pretty lady also. They both have them baby blue eyes I love the eyes. I always wanted eyes like that LOL.

#4 is my favorite, excellent detail, good contrast, catch lights in her eyes. The only thing I would consider doing to that image is croping a litte on the top as the extra green tends to draw my eyes away. Very nicely done, most small children are too busy busy busy to get to pose for very long :D
#1 as another poster suggested, simply turning the angle would have helped reduce the over exposed section of water.
#2 or 3. One seems a bit overexposed, the other under. I'd be curious to see what these would look like in black and white :D

Hi Jesse,
Did as you suggested, took some off the top and I also did it in sepia and colored in the eyes. Just thought I would give it a try. I like it I think it looks better croping some off the top.
I'm posting the sepia and black white.
Don't know witch I prefer the best. I just really like them all. I think she's very photogenic. Very sweet little girl. :P

Marie,
Just a little bit of cropping helps. Nicely done with the eye-painting.

Gail,
The little bit of croping you did to #4 did wonders for it IMHO. Personally comparing the 3 varients, Color, Sepia, B&W I still prefer the color version, the contrasts really adds a nice dynamic eye catching quality to the image. No matter which color scheme it's still a very good image :D

I agree with the comments about the fill-in flash on the first shots. I LOOOVE the sepia one, I find it very very compelling. Great work!

Oh, she's so cute! :D I like #1, #3, and #4 the best. I think #2 is a little too "washed out" for my liking. As for the sepia... tough call, they both look great. Great work! And what a cute little girl! It looks like you had a lot of fun taking these shots. Keep up the good work!
