I am a huge fan of B&W. The only problem is that I suck at converting it. So, I am trying to "learn it right" this time. I picked up a PS book and am neglecting my work and homework duties  . I'd like your feedback if you don't mind. I have a thick skin so honest it best. I think the snow in the foreground it a bit bright.

Edit:
I burned the snow just a little bitsy bit.

Kmorgan, thank you. What do you think about the conversion? Did I pull it off or is it too bright in the foreground?

I don't think there's anything technically wrong with either of the converted images...although I'm no expert! I do prefer the original without the burning. Just seems to have a little more depth.

You conversion is good. I would like to know what method you used?

I am at work and don't have it here. Drop me a PM so I won't forget and I'll send it to you. My plate is rather full so stuff keeps falling off the edges.

Just found this link- there is another tutorial. Check his gallery.
Go to his LEARN page to get his tutorial.

I like the first B&W, to me its not a good (or as good of a) B&W if it doesn't have a lot of contrast, the second B&W you posted seemed to have lost some of the contrast. Think you did good!

Using PSE5 I used the technique outlined in Scott Kelby's book "The Photoshop Elements 5 Book for Digital Photographers."

I'm a b&w fan too, and you'd love PS3. This is good, but somehow the centerstone is lost in the conversion.

I use this to, great control over the whole process, far better than greyscale!
