I had posted this pic in the lunar eclipse thread, but the more I look at it the more impressed with it I am, so I felt it deserved it's own thread.
Taken during the lunar eclipse with my 1d MkII + Sigma 500mm + Sigma 2x TC + Tamron 1.4x TC on a really cheap and wobbly tripod ( I must buy a proper one! )

Hey, Great shot, I hadn't realised that it would be so visible with a 'normal' camera lens as opposed to a telescope.

How did you find that in the night sky? Did you pull the stellar coordinates down from the internet or something?
That is just incredible for the parts and pieces you used.

what? you didn't hand-hold that shot :)
Nice shot. It's pretty impressive that you can tell that it is Saturn, and it was taken with a normal camera, lens, and TCs: not a telescope.

is it this visible all the time. i did a similar tc stack (400 5.6+ 2X+2X+1.4X) and i swear a buddy of mine took a shot very similar to that with rings and everything (although not quite so clear) and i swore it was saturn but he didnt believe it was possible, mabye the camera just shook the right way

I don't think it's always visable, but at the moment it's the bright "star" about halfway between Orion and The Plough.
