I had the Canon S820 for about 1-1/2 year and it broke. It came out to circuit board overheating that shut down the printer automatic, and print head out of alignment need to replace. And it is not worth to repair. Today I went to Compusa to pick up another Canon i960, while I was waiting for the salesman for help, I heard a customer told a salesperson he had a Canon printer before and it broke so fast, and he is picking up a HP printer. That really make me scare, I spent $250 on the S820 and only last 1-1/2 year. Should I try another Canon or buy something else?

Every printer that I've had (5) has lasted about 2.5-3 years. Often I wanted a new printer sooner, but I try to make them last about 3 years. I've only had one break on me, and that was after 2+ years.

In these days of electronics advancement and stuff 2 years might be better for someone who likes newer features, but I've generally wanted to just print a decent picture.

Mine usually last about 2 years. They still work after that of course, but by then every major manufacturer has introduced about 4-6 new models with much-improved output to sucker me into buying another one. Can you say RACKET?

I have 4 HP's in the house as we speak, 2 outdated and not in use, 2 in use, both photo quality but one mainly for the scanner/copies. All Work Well!

I just recently purchased a Canon i560 Inkjet printer. Before that, I had only 1 printer for 12 years, HP LaserJet printer. The old B/W laser printer broke at a perfect time so I could upgrade to a color inkjet printer to print out my photos I took with my digital camera.

My Epson Color Stylus 860 has run flawlessly for 4 years. I paid $175.00 CDN at Costco and then had a $73.00 mail in rebate. Do the math.
Yes, I do consider myself somewhat lucky. :D
