Michigan Birder?

I am looking to take pictures of all kinda of birds. It is a little challenge between my son and I. Does anyone from Michigan know where i can get some shots of Kirtland Warblers? I want to stay far enough away to not interfear with them yet want to get a shot of a near extinct bird. I have looked for "rides" around the area but can't seam to find a descent one to take. I'd like something that is camera friendly.

Good luck. The nesting area is so small that the odds of getting close to one are miniscule. I doubt that the DNR wants a lot of people tramping around the area either, so they may not be much help. Be sure to post it if you get a shot.

Oh yeah, if you do find someone who can get you close, you might want to consider renting a long, fast prime lens. You will be in the woods (dark), and you will not be terribly close to a fairly small bird. A 200mm lens will probably not be adequate.

I see your gear list is longer than my driving record. If i find a spot wanna come and take pictures with me?? Yes if i can find a place to rent glass from i will do so.

One of the links is about a nesting area for the Kirtland's Warbler. Right now the site is not coming up but it did yesterday. I found this link on my local audubon society, they are setting up an outing at Tawas Point in May for migratory bird watching.

I looked at the Kirtland's Warbler link yesterday and it did sound like they hide in the trees and only nest in trees that provide good cover. Obviously they have to come out occasionally to eat, but it did sound difficult to see them.

Thanks for the link. Oh I know they will be no picnic to find. But my son told me I would NEVER get a shot of one. And tell me what Dad can teach a kid to just give up.
