I saw this on Ebay. Anyone think these are necessary protection for the LCD screen or just overkill...

Any PDA screen protector will do the same if not a better job than "protect Right". Except for one thing, PDA protectors are much cheaper and you have enough to cover the LCD screen, the 550EX AF assist lamp, and the 550EX LCD screen couple times over.

I've been using "Da Oly Protector" for one year now on my D60.
It's the LCD screen's exact size.
Costs only $6

That looks pretty cool.
I wonder if it is easily removed?

Most of them are easily removed. I tried one on my D60 quite some time ago and removed it after a week. They tend to distort and reduce the view some and I could not work with that. Plus I found out that the LCD screen cover itself only costs $10.00 from Canon and is very easily removed and replaced.

In addition, these screens have a pretty tough surface and are not easily scratched unless you're especially hard on your equipment. My 10D has been naked for almost a year and the D60 has been naked for a year and a half and neither one of them have any scratches whatsoever.

Yeah, they make these things out of much sterner stuff than that cheap watch 'crystal' that you used to scratch if you looked cross-eyed at it.

I would vote for 'naked'. I hate to have things that distort the display. I discarded the first one of these I tried on a PDA years ago, and never looked back. Companies that sell these things prey on folks' naivete about the strength and scratch resistance of today's materials.

Kind of like selling virus-scanning software for Linux...

I've heard about how cheap it is to replace the original plastic cover on the 10D.
Does anyone know if this is the same with the D. Rebel?

I kicked my Dribbel across the pavement the other day and got a little mark on the screen.I still don't think i'll ever bother using a cover unless the 300D one is much more expensive to replace than the 10D version...

Has anyone got the LCD screen scratched? If so, how did it get scratched?

DRebel: Takes great pictures. Looks cool. Not good for Ninja fights.

Yup. Probably the same cover.
