Not yet... but it's one of the candidates on my list... and for 169 Euro (+shipping)...
Plextor is a good brand ... (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdwriters.php?DVDname=plextor+708a)
I once had a plextor cd-burner, never had a better (unfortunately it stopped working, but others I know, never had problems)

And don't forget dual layer burners are coming as well. If you need that sort of thing of course.

I purchased he external version in Early February PX-708UF & it's awesome!!! All reviews from any Major PC or Gamer Mags gives this a thumbs up. I've used only Sony & Memorex media so far and has had no problems. I've chose this media due to Best Buy has been putting it on sale for about $1.00 each.
It's a good buy & the company has a good rep. I've also purchased thier CD-R/RW and never has had a problem with it.
I use Roxio for burning software

What's so spectacular about the Plextor drive - its 8x speed?
I recently read that Philips now has a DVD writer that can write dual layer DVDs, which means you can store 9 GB on one disc.
Also, manufacturers are working on the next generation of DVD. There are two different standards on which they are working - one is Blu Ray by Philips, and I forgot the name of the other one. Anyway, on those new discs it will be possible to store something like 30 to 50 GB - on ONE disc!!

The 8X Sony and Pioneer should be as good as the Plextor, and may cost a little less. I have an older Pioneer 2X DVD-RW that has worked flawlessly for a few years now.
My expeireinces with Plextor CD-RW drives has been very positive as well.

err, read the specs again for that plextor - it only burns dvd-r at 4x NOT 8x.
There are loads of drives around that burn dvd+r at 8x already.

I have the PX-708A. I bought it in February, and it is awaiting installation.
My main interest is in DVD RW to do data backups. When I was looking, there were several like this one, that burn +RW at 4x and -RW at 2x or 2.4x. I couldn't find anything faster in the retail stores or online. Plus, the media must be 'up to speed' as well. So I resolved myself to using +RW, and got the Plextor.
I couldn't find much bad info on the Plextor, here or on other sites, plus some limited asking around.
Have Fun

I've had good experiences with Plextor products, so I'd recommend this based on reviews I've read on the Net.
