Sub 1x "extenders"

It really depends on what type of photography you do, i, like many of you try to do many types and as such the crop factor could be both a good thing as well as a bad. And it bothers me how limited i am with wide angle lenses. Couldnt they make something that widens...like a .50x.

Is this physicially possible?

Would it distort images too much?

Am i dumb and they already have them?

They would have to be front-end add-ons, because I don't think you can widen the angle that the lens will accept. There are some fisheye add-ons out there, and maybe some others, but I don't really pay attention to them, because there is a great potential to impact the quality of the image.
