View Full Version : Least we forget the suffering of others

I shot these this weekend. These were put outside the building that was used for race classification. So what would happen is if you were not quite white or not quite colored then you would come here and they would "inspect" you. ie how frizzy your hair was. colour of your eyes and skin. Then you would be classified white or not.And then you would get some rights depending on how you were classed.
I was not really around when this was going on. I'm only 25, so I have no guilt. But should we forget how quickly humanity can slide into stupidity. Then I am no better then the policy makers of that day. Others have suffered, lets not forget it.
C&C welcome

The benches were just put up. there is a board next to the benches explaining the story.

Great capture. Great reminder. I grew up when this stuff was commonplace. Divided trains, restaurants for Whites Only... except that it is happening all over again, just the other way around now. Really, really sad that this mistake could be repeated!

Wow, interesting shot. It's a good thing they kept this vestigial remnant to remind people of the past, hopefully not to repeat it. Thanks for sharing.

It's amazing that so little time has passed, and it seems so long ago.
I guess the ideas were so archaic, that it all seems like ancient history.

I think the first shot exceeds the other two in emotion, the subtlety is far better than the shallowness of the latter two.

Yes they are very close to the center of Cape Town. In case you were wandering. These were put up resantly, to remind us.
