Does anyone know of an alternate (3rd party) lens hood for the Canon 100-400 lens ??
I think that cheap-looking plastic thing that ships with that lens is a bit of a waste .....

Well I hate the gimmicky way it goes on, and the tulip isn't so necessary for digital, but the flocking inside makes it a damn nice hood. How would you improve it?

The way it attaches doesn't really bother me,.... at least, when it's on, it seems to be on solidly .....
I'd just like it to be (or seem) less flimsy .... it almost seems like Canon designed that hood as an after-thought to the lens ....
You know, that may be one of those things that I just have to "get over" .... the truth being that there might not be any way to improve it.

I like the hood.
Looks good, and also the slightly flexi nature means the whole assembly is much more forgiving should you happen to knock it against anything.
And it it is reversed it might even protect the lens should it fall out of your truck onto the asphalt.... ;)

I like the hood.
Me too... I don't use it that much.. It's built the way all my Canon lens hoods are... Black plastic, with a felt material bonded inside to reduce reflections...
I don't know what they could do to make it look less cheap.. (Other than making it out of metal.. But then it would be heavier).

Alternate hood is: ET-83II
Higher gage plastic. Fits much better. Petal design.
And about $50 or so.
