Metallic Paper

I have seen some images on metallic paper. Does anyone have a plan on when they decide to use metallic paper versus luster? Does it depend on the photo and if so what would you look for to make that determination?

most say that portraits don't work well, and that B&W's really do. I'd say anything with a lot of color and toal range would work well, but its a matter of taste. Unfortunetly theres no way to soft proof it, so sending out a few images to test as small prints would be a good idea.

It's definately an aquired taste. If you don't want to take the time to send off a half dozen images to get examples, stop by your local Glamour Shots. The newer stores are promoting all the fancy latest papers, selective coloring and overdone processing techniques now.

Corey is right - the B&W's do look really good, but again, you either love it or hate it. For me, it depends on the image. Overall, I think metallic paper is overrated and don't care for a good 30-50% of the prints I see on it. It can come of as "too" modern in a lot of cases.

I sent off for a couple of b B & W's and a couple of night shots that have alot of colored light in them. One is a very colorful ferris wheel at dark and another is a white lighthouse that is lit in Red neon. Be interesting to see how they come out. Ill let you know.
