Hi there, my name is Justin and I am looking to buy a small compact digital camera. my needs are; best movie mode possible in a compact, and good quality stills as well. I need something small to carry with me to shoot video and take pics of my children. I don't know much about cameras but the powershot sd 750 and the 1000 have caught my attention. they are supposed to be out soon. does anybody know who gets the new canons first? if thats the one for me... I don't know but thats why im here. image stabilization would be great for video and pics. please, I greatly appreciate any advice. thank you!:)

My wife uses an SD 700 and its a great camera that is extremely compact and pretty much lives with her at all times so it gets lots of use. I would highly recommend it, however to be honest we haven't used it in the video mode very much (just enough to see that it works). Welcome to POTN Justin and I hope you find all the information you need. Its a great forum.

Even th cameras currently on the market will give you a 9 min. video clip suitable for standard television. If you want High Def, you'll need to wait for newer models (I think the TX is about it for this aside from video cameras), but storage costs will eat you alive. 9 min. at normal video (640x480x30 fps; straight TV) is about 1 GB. Higher definition will more than double that.
