Hi Everyone,
I went to Jessops to finally buy a Canon 30d kit for £749.99 about two weeks ago.Had cash in my pocket and was ready to buy.:D
Then I start talking to the salesman who was very helpfull, infact too helpfull!
He said that the Canon 40D was being launched at the end of Febuary and I was better off if I waited for this because it has full frame and other features that would make it a better buy. Or if I didn't want a 40D the price of the 30D would be reduced.
Well March is here now and no sign of the 40D and the cash is burning a hole in my pocket.
What would you guys do? Wait for the 40D of just buy the 30D?:)

If you don't mind waiting for a year, you might see a 40D. Doesn't appear to be on the table for a release this time around.

Yeah, I think that the salesman was wrong, or maybe misled my someone, I don't think Canon will introduce 40d shortly after MarkIII.
And I think his words about full frame is also rubbish(I would be happy to make a mistake thow)
In my eyes - GO AND BUY 30D RIGHT NOW!!!!)))IMHO))))

Agreed, I think it's hugely unlikely that the 40D is out anytime soon, and even more unlikely that it will be FF.

God, Jessops Sales people tall rubbish.
Every one I've ever spoke to has made something up.
The last occasion was on Saturday, when I went to have a play with a 5D. I got to talking to the Sales guy (first mistake) and he says "yeah there are a bunch of lenses being released soon"
My eyes lit up, and I said "really, like what?"
He then looks at me, with an expression that can only be "damn... cornered" and says "well.. um.. the 16-35 II is coming.. then there's a new flash with a metal mount.."
So I ask, "ok, I've heard that, what about the other lenses?"
He goes quiet and looks away.
I toyed with the idea for a split second that he wasn't answering my question because he wasn't allowed to talk about it, but then I threw that idea out the window fast. You had to be there, the guy was clueless, sprouting stories because he thought it made him sound like he knew something.

you might look into a refurbished 20D from B&H for less bucks, then get some good lenses. Just a thought.

The sales guy mentioned by the OP is an idiot. What retail sales person would talk a customer out of a purchase based on speculation. NONE. Unless of course he's on fork short of a full drawer.

A 40D might be released sometime soon, I can't judge on that, but I really can't imagine it would have anything but an APS-C.

After all the hoopla about the 40D being released in feb, and obviously it was not, I bought the 30D and love it, if you are going from the rebel to it, you will be happy you did..
I have no regretts and if the 40D has a full frame and some of the other stuff they are talking about it may way higher any way.. If you want the 30D go get, you wont be dissapointed even if the 40D is realeased the next day.
Thats my 2cents..
I love it, Glad I got it.

IMO xxD cameras will always have an APS-C size sensor. Don't believe in any full frame stories, it's not going to happen.

With regard to your comments regarding sales people in Jessops...
You lot make me laugh. You are all however correct about the chap talking balls in this instance. I've mentioned before I work for Jessops in a professional sales role, aimed more at top end users. Jessops as a company have been told sweet FA about anything to do with a 40D, and to back that up, only the buying dept were told about the release of the 1D Mk III company wide before it went public to the best of my knowledge. And they STILL haven't actually ordered any from Canon, despite close to a hundred orders from customers existing for them already.
I do however, take issue with you guys referring to them all as clueless t**ts for want of a better phrase. The stores in the South of England are known for being staffed by pig ignorant, highly self-obsessed morons quite frankly, within the company, dealing with them is always a last resort. However, as much as there are a large amount of slightly dense people serving you guys from day to day, there are also a large amount of highly knowledgeable and educated staff. In my store alone there are four operating photographers running their own businesses outside the company, and five members with degrees in artistic and commercial photography. And one (me) who has taught it. So you get what get depending on who you talk to. The key is finding out where your nearest knowledgeable staff member is and sticking with him. Them being thick as pig swill isn't a default.
And FWIW, today alone I have told customers to shop elsewhere as they will find better prices, and advised someone to hang fire for a month or so regarding buying a 30D. This with managerial acceptance. Why? Partly because I believe the company's continual push towards sales is sometimes at the expense of the actual photography side of things, and quite frankly, none of us get paid commission to sell you guys stuff so why force it? And partly because any fair minded person will actually thank you six months later for telling it like it is, instead of cursing 'that idiot in Jessops' for selling me something 'he must have know was almost out of date!'
If I told you to wait for the new camera instead of selling you what I had, and I turned out to be right, wouldn't you be glad?
*Rant over* ;)

theres a few like that up north too :P
i wont shop at jessops stores anymore, not after i went in to buy an EFS 10-22mm and the model they gave me was dusty inside, i said i didnt want one that had dust in then the sales person tried to make me feel like i was being awkward and attempted to pressure me into buying
c`mon, who is gonna pay £450 for a lense thats supposed to be brand new but has dust in it already, not me thats for sure

The smart thing for Canon to do is release the 40D but smart, they're not. If they were smart, there would be one at PMA tomorrow! So, they might release one next year.:(

Even if the 40D was FF and introduced/released this year, your £749.99 cash is not enough!
You will be looking at around £1100-1300 at lowest body only.
or built like a 350D/400D costing around £800-£1000.

Rumors, rumors, rumors... Sometimes I get sick from it :)
I don't really know how respectable is letsgodigital.org but during browsing in order to decide what I'm going to get 400D or 30D in compare section sits 40D as well, ironically compare funcion from the site is not working :)
I'm getting green in the face! :)

I'm hoping for a 40D sometime this year. Will I be lucky... I have my doubts
I have a 20D and basically what I'm after is something similar, but with some sort of anti dust gizmo like on the 400D

No, I doubt I'll be sending you any money but if you could come up with a 40D, well........... Maybe!:D
I'm also deciding maybe a used 5D because I can't afford the new one.
