I agree, great shots.
maybe you can give me some advice.
i am going to attend a couple of airshows over the next few months, and would like to know what settings would you suggest for this type of photography.
I know it depends on weather but is there a general rule you stick to ?
I took some a few weeks ago for the first time (on my website..RAF Kemble) and used AV wide open and let the camera pick the speed - D30 with standard 35-80 & 75-300.
although i was pleased with most of the results - this was the first attempt, i would like to try and take better.

i have just ordered Canon 28-135 IS & 100-400L IS.
so will have a bigger lense than last time and IS (some of my shots at kemble were terribly blurred) so i am really looking forward to them.

Thanks in advance

Hi Terry,

You've got some great pictures on your site. Very unusualy aircraft too!

For me personally, I've found that the Program setting seems to work best.

I use the 'evaluative' metering setting. As long as you keep the main subject relatively centered, it seems to work pretty well.

The few time's I've 'fiddled' with the settings, they came out worse than what the camera picked. Plus the camera does it much faster than I do.

I do keep an eye on the shutter speed the camera picks to make sure its OK for the lens, but other than that the camera does the work.

Hope it helps. Let us know when you have more pictures on your site.
