Can someone please explain what this WIN XP patch does? If I download this file, can I preview the actual image in MY PICTURES? What format is the converted image for viewing? Thanks for the clarification!

Are you referring to the Registry entry that will allow you to view the THM files as JPGs or were you talking about the DLL that actually displays the CRW files as thumbnails in Windows Explorer?

The "XP Patch" I posted is an edit to the registry that tells XP to treat THM files as JPG files (since that's what they are) and will show a thumbnail display. It's not the DLL hack that will actually show a thumbnail of the CRW file. It shows the thumbnail of the THM files only, so you'll use the thumbnail of the THM files to see what the corresponding CRW file is. So if you use this patch don't discard THM files.
This is the content of the d60thm.reg file:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.thm]
@="jpegfile"
"PerceivedType"="image"
"Content Type"="image/jpeg"

you can do this manually.
1. press "windows" + e
2. go to tools/folder options
3. click on the file types tab
4. click new, type in THM, ckick on the advanced tab and select jpeg from the list.
done

If it's the DLL you're after, try this link:

Have you actually tried this? It certainly didn't work when XP first came out, and I'd bet a pint that it still doesn't. The only way is the reg fix afaik. I applied the reg fix almost 2 years ago (or as long as XP has been around,) and it works every time, every Canon RAW file from every camera.
Still...
