I shot this one at a Hollywood club fashion show. Used a Xt with its kit lens... Bummer, it was too crowd to do full body shot... First fashion show gig, no experience. Please advise, my fellow photographers. :)

I feel sooo sorrry for you taking pictures of such pretty girls :)

I like it. Yes, the missing legs would make for a better picture (maybe), but the girls looking "life-size" is not bad at all.

I feel your pain.

You need to add a flash and bounce/white card to make it less harsh. Crank your saturation up a bit to get those colors to really pop. I do a lot of import model shots at many of the major import tuning shows and I have the same problem of taking tons of shots of beautiful women. LOL. Every spring, my life gets a bit hectic on weekends w/ my press pass. ;)

I tend to shoot either full body (some of those outfits are outragegous...or lack thereof) or from the waist up. Good luck on your future gigs.

The composition is good, but a bit overexposed in the bodies. Less direct, and more bounce, as stated above. Pocket bouncer might work nicely.

Thanks for the flash and bouncer advice, DizzyV6P and Hawk911, I do NOT have a external flash yet... I know it will be another $400+ investment...But I know i will make the purchase very soon if I keep getting those press pass. :) What do you guys think if I did NOT use flash at all at show as the runway is fairly bright.

I agree with the comments already fielded, but woulf be happy to achieve these results with a kit lens and on board flash unit, so well done

You might want to try the 17-55 lens and set ISO 400 and see what you get. I don't know how noisy the XT gets, but I know my Drebel gets a bit grainy at that level. Depending on the model show, if there's enough light, you might be able to get away with it. Did you take a few w/o the flash?

i didn't have my 17-55 yet at the time of shooting...I purchased afterwards due to the unsatisfying with this model show shooting result... My kit lens obviously can't hand it at all... sigh... after spending $1k on 17-55, I left no $ for flash and next 10 months' lunch...hehe...

No, I fired flash all the time due to fear of my f/3.5-5.6 cant handle the light... bummer I should have tried one or two just in case...

check the "for sale" here, as there are plenty of off-camera flash units for sale regularly. I have the 550ex, which does me fine. I only paid $250.
