Anyone know where i can find the software that will allow me to access the personal functions in a 1D,.. ?

I found a Manual;

http://www.powershot.com/powershot2/customer/pdf/EOS_1D_Software_IB_E.pdf

I have a great used 1D,. but the software manual and disks were missing.

I went to CanonUSA and downloaded new firmware,. "WIA" Driver.. and "updates" for the software,. but I'm pretty sure I need the original disk,. as they only had updates.

Any Ideas ???

Thanks

It turns out that indeed,. all I needed was available for download .. AND I needed AN installation of "Zoombrowser" installed to "talk to the 1D"

well,. DUH!

After my massive PC crash a few months back,. I had never re-installed ZB ,.. (I mean ,. why bother??)

Anyway,. I installed ZB from my 10D disk,. updated it,. and all the other goodies I downloaded from Canons site,. and ZB is indeed talking to the 1D.. and listing all the "Personal Functions"

So I'm good to go...

I do have one problem though,. whenever I try to "apply" a personal function setting,. ZB tells me it has lost communication with the 1D ???

This is with all the latest drivers, firmware etc.. installed,. and at the same time communication is DEFINATELY working fine.. I can download and upload images,. set time, date and name etc...

I'll figure it out though.

I never used any of the personal functions with the 1D or 1Ds so I cannot say but one thought might be to use the AC power to download. Otherwise, check connections??

Good luck!

What kind of personal functions? I think you set the camera owner name from the FileViewerUtility. I know you can set the 10D Owner Name from the FVU. Perhaps you can set other personal functions from there as well on the 1D? Worth a look anyway.

Don't do it from ZoomBrowser. Open My Computer, right click on the 1D and select properties. This is a 'feature' of ZB with the 1D/1Ds.

There is quite a host of them for the 1D.. you can downlaod the manual if your interested.. the MkII will add more.. and I understand that more of them are adjustable "in camera" without needing to tether the camera to a PC to make the settings.

The ones I am interested is I can set up three different "personal" shooting profiles,. each one with a different set of custom functions etc...

It will be like being able to program our own settings and preferences in the "landscape" "portrait" and "sports" modes on the dial..

(..Only with the 1D there is no dial,. you would then select one of these shooting modes in the menu)

This is one of te features that has most intrigued me with the 1D bodies.

How cool is that?? just another reason to step up to the Mk II. I decided to order the 1D mark II, and then pick up a used 1Ds when the new version of that model is released. Hopefully I'll get the best of both worlds that way. Of course, I'm pretty far down on the waiting list now. I'll be in the third shipment slated for late June or early July to my local shop. I'm leary of ordering the body online just in case something is amiss. I feel safer dealing with someone with whom I have a proven history, so I'll just wait and salivate.
